Why do people get upset if I have an accident?

For an example, the most embarring thing happened. I was carrying some coffee and I accidently dropped my coffee and it spilled on someone’s suit and I was so embarred and I said: “oops, I am so sorry!” and he wasn’t pleased and this guy just YELLED: “GOD DAMMIT!!!!!! LOOK WHAT YOU DID!!!! MY EXPENSIVE SUIT!!” And he was using napkins to clean it up and he made such a fuss about it and I said: “Sorry, it was an accident!” and he said: “YOU ARE BUYING ME A NEW SUIT!!! WHATS YOUR NAME? IM TELLING ON YOU!” And he was tattling and calling the cops on me and telling me that he wanted to sue me and was talking about me owing him drycleaning bill and it was ridiculous! Did he have a right to overreact like this and be so rude and make me nervous? Accidents happen!!! Its not like I am clumsy all the time!!! The coffee just slipped off the tray I was carrying and the guy was in the way!
