Removing metal polish from crevices?

My dad dug out an old display sword some time back and attempted to polish it with metal polisher but some of the polish got stuck in the crevices and he did not clean them out. Now that the metal polisher dried up, it left unsightly greenish stains in the crevices which made it look like oxidization had taken place. Is there any way to remove the dried metal polish from the crevices?
